The Future of EIA-748: Minor Changes Now, but Brace Yourself for 2023

May 11, 2018

Earned Value Management News: The National Defense Industrial Association Integrated Program Management Division (NDIA IPMD) is responsible for updating the EIA-748 EVM Standard every five years. EIA-748-C (current version) is being reviewed and approved by IPMD Board members and will later be released for public comment as EIA-748-D in 2018.

Don’t expect many changes with Version D: they are fairly minor (clarifications and examples). Although EIA-748-E is still a long way away (2023), strong rumors among leadership suggest major changes are likely.

Possible changes include the elimination, addition, and or consolidation of several of the 32 guidelines. These changes will likely require contractors to update their EVM System Descriptions, company policy and procedures, surveillance approach, and training content.
